The Commissioners' goal was "to develop and implement a Master Aging Plan
(M.A.P.) that would provide a comprehensive and coordinated delivery of community services to
senior citizens over the life span who have different levels of functional capacity."
To achieve this goal, the County Commissioners established a M.A.P. Task Force in November,
1999. After ten months, numerous meetings and three public hearings, the M.A.P. Task Force
has identified the issues, and developed goals and objectives to address the issues. The Task
Force completed the Master Aging Plan for the BOCC's consideration in September, 2000.
From November through February, 2001, additional input was received from the general public
and from the municipalities in Orange County. M.A.P. presentations were made by the Chair of
the Aging Board and Aging Director to the Towns of Hillsborough (December 4), Chapel Hill
(January 8), Carrboro (January 16) and the City of Mebane (February 5). Also, public
presentations were given in Chapel Hill on January 31 and in Hillsborough on February 6. All
entities expressed positive support for the Master Aging Plan as indicated in the attached
letters.
At meetings on September 5 and 12, 2000, the Board discussed the M.A.P. Board members
raised several questions regarding the document, and Department on Aging Director Jerry
Passmore will be at the March 6 meeting to address those issues.
