Dr. Stewart is a native of North <br />Carolina familiar with the unique environment, industries and building practices of the region. He has <br />assisted architects and engineers in the design of award-winning buildings and has helped owners <br />correct problems in existing buildings. He is a leading noise control wnsultant to the textile industry. <br />Dr. Stewart was the principal noise control expert for the 1990 National Institutes of Health Consensus <br />Conference on Noise and Hearing Loss. He has advised local governments on noise control <br />ordinances and the resolution of noise problems. In 1985, he taught a national community noise <br />teleconference course for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Dr. Stewart has served <br />as an expert witness in Federal District Court, North Carolina District and Superior Courts, South <br />Carolina Administrative Law Court, and before arbitration proceedings. <br />~ A strong participation in technical society activities includes membership in the Acoustical Society of <br />America for over 30 years. He has served continuously on the local chapter executive committee since <br />1977. Dr. Stewart has participated strongly in the development of ASTM standazds for architectural <br />acoustics and community noise evaluation. He has a record of over 50 publications, seminars, and <br />~ presentations to technical societies. He is currently serving as President of the National Council of <br />Acoustical Consultants. <br />61 <br />
