Freeland. The initial lease agreement was executed in
19$6, with renewals every five years. Since 1996, the County has leased this properky for
$1,800 per year ($150 per month).
The County's approach to collecting solid waste in unincorporated Orange County at six
staffed Solid Waste Convenience Centers will continue for the foreseeable future. Therefore,
staff recommends the continuation of a five-year lease renewal period for this convenience
center site. In the event that an alternative manner of solid waste collection is identified
before the end of the lease period, the lease agreement includes a clause that permits either
party to terminate the lease with 90 days notice.
County staff have periodically inquired as to whether the property owner would be willing to
sell the site. The property owner has indicated again in March 2001 that she does not wish
to sell the property. However, she is willing to sign a lease renewal at a cost to the County of
$ 3,000 per year ($250 per month).
