She <br /> 15 said the good news is that digital content does not take up shelf space and does not have to be <br /> 16 processed; however, cost is the bad news, as a digital collection is very expensive. She said <br /> 17 the digital collection is very popular. <br /> 18 Commissioner Price asked if the library has enough computers. <br /> 19 Lucinda Munger said yes, and about half go unused during the day and staff is looking <br /> 20 to reallocate them for better usage. <br /> 21 Commissioner Price commended the variety of acitivities avaiable at the library, <br /> 22 especially for young people. <br /> 23 Chair Rich said residents are fortunate to have great accessibliity through the different <br /> 24 locations, and can get materials easily through the Orange County library. <br /> 25 Lucinda Munger said the frequency of the courier service has greatly increased, and <br /> 26 staff wants to transfer items back and forth. She says there is a good chance one can get one's <br /> 27 item within 48 hours. <br /> 28 Travis Myren said that the CIP is still holding funds for the Southern Branch. He said the <br /> 29 Arts Center is no longer participating, and Carrboro is evaluating parking options. He said the <br /> 30 project is making progress, but some redesign work is needed due to the Arts Center stepping <br /> 31 out of the project. He said the operating costs will be about $660,000 for the new branch when <br /> 32 it opens. <br /> 33 Commissioner McKee asked if this cost is to be borne by the County, and when the <br /> 34 BOCC can expect to get an update on the project. <br /> 35 Bonnie Hammersley said yes, the cost will be borne by the County, and staff will have <br /> 36 more information after the summer break.
