The easement would enhance the protection of this historic farm, <br /> 3 which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It would also complement the <br /> 4 technical assistance from the Orange Soil and Water Conservation District and will also protect <br /> 5 stream buffers. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 David Stancil made the following PowerPoint presentation: <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Holden-Roberts Farm Easement <br /> 10 <br /> 11 Funding Partners: <br /> 12 $ 85,000 (27%) Orange County (Lands Legacy) <br /> 13 $ 84,460 (27%) NC ADFP Trust Fund Grant <br /> 14 $ 71,698 (23%) City of Raleigh (Upper Neuse initiative) <br /> 15 $ 69,750 (23%) Landowner donation (Anderson family) <br /> 16 $ 310,908 (100%) Total Easement <br /> 17 <br /> 18 <br /> 19 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 20 RESOLUTION <br /> 21 Approval of Conservation Easement <br /> 22 between <br /> 23 Orange County and the Eno River Association <br /> 24 and <br /> 25 Nels and Nancy Anderson <br /> 26 <br /> 27 WHEREAS, Orange County has adopted goals that promote the preservation of natural areas, <br /> 28 wildlife habitat, prime farmland, and open space in the county; and <br /> 29 <br /> 30 WHEREAS, Orange County established the Lands Legacy Program for the purpose of <br /> 31 protecting the most significant natural and cultural resources through partnerships with <br /> 32 landowners and other conservation entities; and <br /> 33 <br /> 34 WHEREAS, one component of the Lands Legacy Program is the acquisition of conservation <br /> 35 easements on prime farmland within water supply watersheds; and <br /> 36 <br /> 37 WHEREAS, the Holden-Roberts Farm property includes approximately 57 acres in the Lower <br /> 38 Eno protected watershed, consisting of a majority of prime agricultural soils, and includes 2,500 <br /> 39 linear feet of tributaries that drain to Falls Lake — a drinking water supply reservoir for <br /> 40 the City of Raleigh; and <br /> 41 <br /> 42 WHEREAS, Nels and Nancy Anderson, the owners of the Holden-Roberts Farm property, wish <br /> 43 to grant a permanent conservation easement to Orange County and the Eno River Association, <br /> 44 which will protect the prime farmland and riparian corridors that exist on the property; and <br /> 45 <br /> 46 WHEREAS, a conservation easement on this approximately 57 acres would ensure the <br /> 47 preservation of this farmland and stream buffers for future generations and help compensate the <br /> 48 owner for this long-term commitment; <br /> 49 <br />
