Call to Order <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Chair Rich introduced special guests attending tonight: <br /> 26 <br /> 27 -Doug Sutter: ABB's Program Manager for Electrification Products, with the firm's industrial <br /> 28 Connections and Solutions Group (Cary, N.C. office) <br /> 29 -Dom Pitocco: ABB's Mebane Plant Manager <br /> 30 -Melissa London: head of ABB's U.S. media relations (Cary, N.C. office) <br /> 31 -Kristin Hogan with ABB's site selection consultant firm "Deloitte U.S." <br /> 32 -Leila Halperin, student intern from Chapel Hill High, who will be shadowing Board of County <br /> 33 Commissioners members and Town of Carrboro members, to find out how more how local <br /> 34 government works. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 2. Public Hearing and Decision Regarding an Economic Development Recruitment <br /> 37 Incentive for ABB, Inc. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 PURPOSE: <br /> 40 To: <br /> 41 1) Conduct a public hearing on the issuance of a performance-based economic <br /> 42 development incentive by the County to a private company; and <br /> 43 2) Consider approval of a proposed five-year performance-based incentive agreement, <br /> 44 with claw-back provisions, for the recruitment of ABB, Inc.'s manufacturing facility <br /> 45 expansion in Orange County. <br /> 46 <br /> 47 BACKGROUND: Local and state government in North Carolina have the goal to promote <br /> 48 economic development by encouraging the location of new businesses and the expansion of <br /> 49 existing businesses. This activity serves to diversify the local tax base, increase employment <br /> 50 opportunities and introduce desired job skills and related benefits to a community for the benefit <br />
