5 1 Chair Rich said Dr. Charles Van Der Horst passed away, and she would like to do a 2 proclamation for him in September. She said he was one of the first people to attend to Aids 3 patients, as well as conduct research, when other doctors were unwilling to do so. 4 Chair Rich said she too enjoyed the Arts Conference, and it was a remarkable 5 experience. She said Orange County is on the right track with the arts. She reviewed highlights 6 of her trip. 7 Chair Rich said the budget process is hard, and the Commissioners are not in 8 competition when doing a budget and the Board needs to be collaborative. She said the Board 9 speaks with the school boards often. 10 11 4. Proclamations/ Resolutions/Special Presentations 12 13 a. Proclamation Recognizing the Carrboro High School Women's Soccer Team for 14 Winning the 2019 State 2A Championship 15 The Board considered voting to approve a Proclamation Recognizing the Carrboro High 16 School Women's Soccer Team for winning the 2019 State 2A Championship and authorize the 17 Chair to sign. 18 Coach Jared Drexler introduced some of the players. 19 Commissioner Marcoplos read the Proclamation: 20 21 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 22 PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON 23 CARRBORO HIGH SCHOOL WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM WINNING THE 2019 STATE 2A 24 CHAMPIONSHIP 25 26 WHEREAS, the Carrboro High School Women's Soccer Team captured the North Carolina High 27 School Athletic Association's State 2A Championship; and 28 29 WHEREAS, the Jaguars won all but one match this season, compiling an excellent 18-1-2 30 record and a perfect record of 10-0 in the Mid-State Conference; and 31 32 WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Jared Drexler, the Carrboro High School Women's 33 Soccer Team has won four of the last five state titles; and 34 35 WHEREAS, through their hard work, dedication, teamwork and commitment, the team and 36 Coach Drexler brought honor upon themselves, Carrboro High School, the Chapel 37 Hill-Carrboro City Schools District and Orange County; 38 39 NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners 40 expresses its sincere appreciation and respect to the Carrboro High School 41 Women's Soccer Team for their outstanding achievement and their inspiration to 42 youth across North Carolina through their dedication, teamwork and athletic 43 prowess. 44 45 This the 18'" day of June 2019. 46 47 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Dorosin to 48 approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation recognizing the Carrboro High School 49 Jaguars Women's Soccer Team for winning the 2019 State 2A Championship and honoring the 50 players and coaches for representing the community with the highest ideals of sportsmanship 51 and integrity.
