You can see my columns online
at: https://patimes.org/?s=matthew+teal&x=0&y=0.
Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards:
N/A
Boards/Commissions applied for:
Orange County Climate Council
Background, education and experience relevant to this board:
My previous experience as a US Government national security analyst has made me aware of
the overwhelming threat that climate change presents to US national security. My graduate
degree in Public Administration (MPA)from the UNC School of Government has helped me
strengthen my research, writing, and presentation skills to more effectively communicate with
senior elected officials and career managers, particular in the local government setting. (The
UNC MPA program is very focused on local government management.) Finally, my current role
as the UNC Chapel Hill Policy Analyst has given me an opportunity to work across silos and
engage with key stakeholders in multiple organizations within UNC and outside UNC to improve
and manage the policy creation, updating, and retirement process for UNC Chapel Hill.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
I believe climate change is the greatest threat to the American national security. I want to use my
research, writing, and presentation skills, my formal local government training, and my
experience working across organizational silos to engage with key stakeholders to help Orange
County think strategically about the best way to mitigate the impact of climate change in Orange
County and also serve as a model for other counties across the state and the nation.
