13
PreTrial Services Evaluator/Coordinator
The Evaluator/Coordinator
See the Pre-Trial Policies for detailed day to day description.
The Evaluator-Coordinator screens by interviewing candidates from the jail
confinement lists in Orange and Chatham County Jails. The Evaluator uses
criteria to determine the likelihood that an inmate will return to court for all
court dates by examining past available criminal records, verifying stability
of home/employment and looking at other factors related to community
safety. Inmates with favorable factors are brought to the attention of a judge
or magistrate. The court determines whether a release with supervision
(telephone call-in monitoring) is allowed or a bond reduction granted. The
primary concerns of the program are safety of the community and likelihood
of court appearance. -
The position is supervised directly by the Executive Director, with whom the
Evaluator staffs (reviews case acrion) the possible actions to be taken.
When the director is unavailable, the Evaluator screens cases with a
magistrate on duty before bringing them to a judge unless the magistrate
addresses the need for action.
Transportation between the two jails in the 15-B District (Hillsborough and
Pittsboro) is required. Some traveling to statewide meetings/training'
required. -
