Nebraska Avenue
Tampa, Florida 33613
Re: Letter of Recommendation
Dear Mitch:
With this letter I would like to express my appreciation for the professional and on-point solid waste consulting work in the
area of organics recycling your firm has performed for Mecklenburg County and to state my recommendation for utilizing
Kessler Consulting, Inc. (KCI)to other interested parties.
I have had the distinct pleasure of co-managing the project along with the KCI team on a Food Waste Diversion Study. The
information in the study was directly used in the County's Solid Waste Master Plan revisions. This project was aimed to
better understand the quantities, distribution, market and infrastructure for the commercial and residential sectors. The
study's goal was to establish baseline information needed to evaluate the feasibility of a future food waste recovery pilot
program and subsequent countywide recovery program.
Specifically, KCI's study, working with staff executed the following Nine actions for the commercial and residential sectors:
1) identified the commercial major generators and food waste generation 2) calculated the amount of food waste generated
per household 3) profiled existing food waste recovery programs 4) profiled existing facilities and capacity 5) profiled
successful food waste recovery programs in other jurisdictions B) assessed the existing and potential food waste
collection and transport options 7) pin-pointed the economic, and environmental policy drivers for diversion, and 8)
presented the local barriers (gaps) and opportunities for program implementation and 9) presented the findings and
recommendations for diversion.
Most importantly, KCI staff prepared a useful report to not only the County, but one that has been used by the private
sector that wants to work with the County to bring forth food waste organics diversion to the County. I have found the
entire staff at KCI to be dependable, very thorough, and polished. In other words, they rock!
Your meetings and presentations are always succinct; never missing a beat. On behalf of Mecklenburg County Waste
Reduction and Composting staff, I would like to thank KCI for its environmental consulting services, staff skills, client
services,and subject matter knowledge.
Respectfully,
E.
