Generator sectors included single-family { <br /> residential, multi-family residential, commercial, and <br /> C&D/bulky waste streams. KCI also conducted a <br /> concurrent recyclables composition study to <br /> determine the composition of recyclable materials <br /> collected in the city's curbside recycling program. As f <br /> part of this study, KCI also provided a conceptual <br /> approach to divert 65%of the material delivered to <br /> the transfer station from disposal by 2025. To <br /> identify potential waste diversion opportunities, KCI <br /> applied the characterization study results to the various sources, types, and quantities of materials <br /> received at transfer station. Results revealed that 21%of the materials received were diverted from <br /> disposal, an additional 16%consisted of fiber and containers included in the city's existing program, and <br /> 15%consisted of materials that could have been composted. <br /> Recyclables Processing Strategic Planning <br /> Using the results of the RCS, KCI is currently assisting the As our consultant, Kessler <br /> City of Durham with procuring future recyclables Consulting,Inc.has been very <br /> processing services. Similar to previous assistance cooperative and willing to work <br /> with us to enhance our <br /> provided by KCI,the city is looking to form apublic- <br /> private partnership (PPP)for development of a materials programs. KCI has become our <br /> first option for consulting <br /> recovery facility(MRF) on the city's property with private services related to solid waste <br /> sector operation. Initial project work entails conducting issues. <br /> information-gathering meetings with various vendors to Donald M.Long <br /> evaluate the level of interest and the type of PPP that Solid Waste Director <br /> might be most successful.
