Install step flashing at vertical walls and interfaces with shingle roof systems . <br /> Be Step flashing shall be L-shaped with horizontal leg 5 inches in length ; vertical leg shall <br /> be of sufficient length to extend under counterflashing a minimum of 4 inches at the <br /> upslope side of the step flashing . Width of step flashing shall match that of the shingle . <br /> C . Install step flashing in conjunction with shingle installation . <br /> 3 . 10 Counterflashing <br /> A . Install counterflashing at chimneys , walls , and other vertical surfaces intersecting or <br /> abutting shingle roof areas . Lap joints a minimum of 3 inches . Solder all joints . <br /> Be Apply caulking between flat surface of counterflashing and walls , curbs , etc , prior to <br /> securing . <br /> C . Anchor counterflashing to walls , curbs , etc . using expansion type masonry anchors <br /> installed through counterflashing into predrilled slotted holes 8 inches o . c . Use neoprene <br /> washers to seal expansion anchors . At all other areas , sawcut reglet and install receiver <br /> with lead wedges 12 inches o . c . Lead wedges shall be 2 inches in length and spaced 24 <br /> inches o . c . <br /> D . Counterflashing shall extend beyond ends of baseflashing 6 inches . Extend <br /> counterflashing around corners 6 inches unless otherwise required . <br /> E . Caulk top edge of counterflashing, domed or sloped to shed water . <br /> 3 . 11 Vents and Stacks <br /> A . At vents and stacks apply shingles up to point where vent or stack pipe projects through <br /> roof and cut nearest shingle to fit around pipe . <br /> Be Prior to applying shingles beyond pipe, prepare flange of metal pipe vent flashing by <br /> applying a 1 / 8 inch thick coating of asphalt flashing cement on bottom side of flashing <br /> flange . Slip flashing collar and flange over pipe, and set coated flange in 1 / 16 inch <br /> coating of asphalt flashing cement . <br /> co After applying flashing flange , continue shingling up roof. Lap lower part of flange over <br /> shingles . Overlap flange with side and upper shingles . Fit shingles around pipe and <br /> embed in 1 / 16 inch thick coating of asphalt flashing cement where shingles overlay <br /> flange . <br /> 3 . 12 Saddles <br /> A .
