Install felt underlayment horizontally in shingle fashion over all areas to receive new <br /> shingle roofing . A 19 inch starter sheet shall be installed beginning at the eave . A full <br /> width sheet shall then be applied covering the starter sheet . Succeeding sheets shall be <br /> lapped 19 inches over the preceding sheets to allow for a 17 inch exposure . End laps shall <br /> be a minimum of 6 inches and shall be staggered a minimum of 12 inches . <br /> Be Felts shall be backnailed under the laps only as necessary to hold the felts in place until <br /> shingles are applied . <br /> C . Install metal edge flashing after installing felt underlayment. Flange of metal edge flashing <br /> shall be set in full bed of roof flashing cement. Secure edge flashing with nails at 4 inches <br /> o . c . Apply a full bed of flashing cement over the metal flange before installing ice dam . <br /> 3 . 04 Eave and Ice Dam <br /> A . Starting from the eave edge install one ply of self-adhering membrane . Membrane shall be <br /> installed in shingle fashion extending from the eave edge to a point 24 inches beyond the <br /> interior face of the exterior walls . <br /> Be Self-adhering membrane shall extend a minimum of 3 inches under felt underlayment. End <br /> laps of self-adhering membrane shall be 6 inches minimum . <br /> C . Self-adhering membrane shall be installed over hips and ridges . Membrane shall be <br /> centered in width over hips and ridges and shall be installed in continuous fashion . <br /> D . At Contractor's option, the eave and ice dam protection may be constructed beginning with <br /> a 19 inch starter strip of felt . Felt shall be imbedded in a 1 /8 inch thick bed of roof flashing <br /> cement. Over the starter strip, install one full-width ply of felt fully imbedded in a 1 /8 -inch <br /> thick bed of roof flashing cement. Install succeeding plies in shingle fashion to form a two .. <br /> ply installation extending from the cave edge to a point 24 inches beyond the interior face <br /> of exterior walls . Each ply shall be fully imbedded in roof flashing cement with end joints <br /> staggered a minimum of 12 inches . <br /> E . Before applying shingles , install one additional ply of self-adhering membrane at all <br /> valleys . <br /> 3 . 05 Shingles <br /> A. Before applying shingles , a starter course shall be installed along the eaves . Starter course <br /> shall be shingles placed with the tabs facing upslope except tabs shall be removed . Edge of <br /> the starter course shall be even with the eave edge . Starter course shall be secured with <br /> nails along a line parallel to and 4 inches above the eave edge . Nails shall be placed in <br /> such a way that nail heads will not be exposed either at cutouts or at spaces between <br /> shingle tabs . <br /> Be First course of shingles shall be started with full shingles while succeeding courses shall be <br /> started with full or cut shingles .
