MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES <br />May 20, 2 019 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON MONDAY: May 20, 2019 at the <br />Hillsborough Commons, Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, Ann Wilkerson, Pat <br />Garavaglia, and Jamezetta Bedford. <br /> <br />GUEST : None. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: Susie Enoch. <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; Sharron Hinton, Human Services Manager; Lindsey Shewmaker, <br />Human Services Manager ; and Crystal Mitchell, Human Services Manager. <br /> <br />I. Call to Order and Introductions <br /> <br />DSS Chair, Pat Garavaglia, called the meeting to order at 4:05 pm. <br /> <br />II. Board Comments <br /> <br />Pat Garavaglia asked how the community resource fair went. Crystal Mitchell responded that there <br />was really strong attendance from the community partners and there was positive feedback asking for it <br />to be an annual event. <br /> <br />III. Public Comments <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />IV. Agenda Changes <br /> <br />The fourth agenda item should be titled Community Child Protection Team Annual Report. <br /> <br />V. Action Items <br /> <br />On a motion by Pat Garavaglia, the Board approved the minutes of April 2019. Ann Wilkerson <br />seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. <br /> <br />VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision <br /> <br />1. Legal and In-Home Aide Contracts <br /> <br />Nancy Coston informed the Board that there are new federal guidelines about when bids for <br />services are required. Because staff could not determine whether these services were exempt, the <br />County is putting out requests for proposals for both in-home aide services and legal services. The <br />current contracts will be extended through September, while details are worked out, for approval by <br />the Board of County Commissioners. <br /> <br />2. Work First Plan <br /> <br />Nancy Coston informed the Board that the agency would like to update the Work First Plan to target <br />certain populations for 200% services.
