_s <br />Attachment 1 <br />C 1000-2/01 <br />CENTRAL SERVICES CLERK I <br />GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br />Performs responsible clerical work in a Central Services department; does related work as <br />required. <br />TYPICAL TASKS: <br />Operates the main switchboard; <br />Forwards incoming calls to various County departments; <br />Assists County employees with dialing area codes that are not programmed in system; <br />Provides general information to callers regarding non-County business; <br />Takes messages for telephone repair requests and forwards to Purchasing Agent; <br />Provides mail courier services; <br />Delivers and picks up US, inter-office and courier mail on a scheduled basis; <br />Reviews certified mail for compliance with established rules and regulations; <br />Sorts mail by department for delivery; <br />Makes special deliveries; <br />Uses mail machines, including postage meters in processing a variety of outgoing and incoming <br />mail; <br />Inputs departmental account numbers in postage machine; <br />Responds to questions while on rounds and in the mailroom concerning mail processing and <br />procedures; <br />Uses computer to fill supply orders from Central stores for County departments; <br />Maintains supplies in Central stores; keeps stocks and shelves in order; <br />Distributes telephone bills to County departments; <br />Performs related tasks as required. <br />KNOWLEDGES. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br />Some knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and standard clerical <br />techniques; some knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; ability to learn <br />assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed departmental routines; ability to <br />make simple arithmetic calculations and file alphabetically; ability to establish and maintain <br />effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. <br />EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br />Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school
