9 <br /> <br />The Board considered voting to approve a Proclamation Recognizing the Chapel Hill 1 <br />High School Women’s Fencing Team for winning the 2019 State Championship. 2 <br />Todd McGee, Community Relations Director presented this item. 3 <br /> 4 <br />BACKGROUND: The Chapel Hill High School Women’s Foil Team recently won the North 5 <br />Carolina Fencing League state title under the direction of Coach Doug Guild, who has guided 6 <br />the program to numerous state titles. 7 <br />The team members introduced themselves: Erin Timmons, Kate Barrett, Jasmine Gee, 8 <br />and Alesandra Gutierrez-Arnold. 9 <br /> 10 <br />Commissioner McKee read the proclamation: 11 <br /> 12 <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 13 <br />PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON 14 <br />CHAPEL HILL HIGH SCHOOL’S WOMEN’S FENCING TEAM 15 <br />WINNING THE 2019 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP 16 <br /> 17 <br />WHEREAS, the Chapel Hill High School’s Women’s Fencing Team captured the North Carolina 18 <br />Fencing League’s State Fencing Championship; and 19 <br /> 20 <br />WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Doug Guild, the Chapel Hill High School’s Women’s 21 <br />Foil Team has won numerous state titles; and 22 <br /> 23 <br />WHEREAS, through their hard work, dedication, teamwork and commitment, the team and 24 <br />Coach Guild brought honor upon themselves, Chapel Hill High School, the Chapel 25 <br />Hill/Carrboro City Schools District and Orange County; 26 <br /> 27 <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners 28 <br />expresses its sincere appreciation and respect to the Chapel Hill High School 29 <br />Fencing Team for their outstanding achievement and their inspiration to youth 30 <br />across North Carolina through their dedication, teamwork and athletic prowess. 31 <br /> 32 <br />This the 21st day of May 2019. 33 <br /> 34 <br />Coach Doug Guild said it was an honor to coach this team, and 4 years ago the NC 35 <br />fencing league split between men and women, and the Chapel Hill girls’ team has won 3 out of 36 <br />4 years. 37 <br /> 38 <br />A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Price for 39 <br />the Board to approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. 40 <br /> 41 <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS 42 <br /> 43 <br />d. Proclamation Recognizing the Carrboro Clams Ultimate Frisbee Team for Winning 44 <br />the 2019 North Carolina High School Boys Division I State Championship 45 <br />The Board considered voting to approve a Proclamation Recognizing the Carrboro 46 <br />Clams Ultimate Frisbee Team for winning the 2019 North Carolina High School Boys Division I 47 <br />State Championship. 48 <br /> Todd McGee, Community Relations Director, presented this item. 49 <br /> 50
