Orange County Advisory Board on Aging <br /> MINUTES <br /> Tuesday, April 9, 2019 <br /> Passmore Center <br /> PRESENT: (Board Members) Heather Altman, Colin Austin, Peggy Cohn,James Harris, Richard White, and <br /> Michael Zuber. (Staff) Myra Austin, Mike Komives, Cherie Rosemond, Beverly Shuford, Janice Tyler, Annie <br /> Deaver, Shenae McPherson <br /> Board Members Absent: Mary Altpeter, Keith Cook, Vibeke Talley <br /> 1. Introductions and Announcements <br /> a. Colin's office has moved to Corporate Drive, off of Meadowlands Drive. <br /> b. With quorum present, the February 12, 2019 minutes were approved. <br /> 2. Approval of Minutes— March 12, 2019 <br /> a. Motion made and approved to accept the March minutes with one correction: Section 13.c., <br /> correct HIPPA to HIPAA. <br /> 3. Any other Agenda items <br /> a. None <br /> Director's Report <br /> 4. Staff Updates <br /> a. Interview team completed interviews for the VC 55+Volunteer Coordinator position and will be <br /> making an offer soon. <br /> 5. TJCOG-AAA Annual Monitoring visit— March 20 <br /> a. The Aging Transitions division was monitored on March 20 with positive results. A final report from <br /> TJCOG-AAA is forthcoming. <br /> 6. House Bill 335— Increase funding for HCCBG <br /> a. NC Association on Aging and the NC Coalition on Aging asking for$7 million, recurring funding, for <br /> senior center operations. Janice reported that it was a bi-partisan issue with a good chance of <br /> passing. Janice asked if the board would be willing to write a letter of support to the legislators. The <br /> board voted yes. Janice to draft the letter, Peggy will sign and send. <br /> 7. Older Americans Month Proclamation — May <br /> a. Janice will get the proclamation to the OC BOCC for approval at the May 2nd BOCC meeting. <br /> 8. Volunteer Connect 55+Volunteer Appreciation — May 10, Seymour Center, 4—6 p.m. <br /> a. Janice invited the board members and reminded everyone to mark their calendars. <br /> 9. Direct Care Worker Awards— May 9, Passmore Center, 4:30—6 p.m. <br /> a. This is the 5t" annual awards ceremony for direct care workers. Nominations continue to come in. <br /> Deadline to submit: April 15, 2019. <br /> New Business <br /> 10. Seymour Center Renovation Update <br /> a. Nearly 30 contractors attended the Pre-bid meeting on March 28. Bids may be submitted until April <br /> 30, 2 p.m. when bidding will close. <br /> b. First phase of the project is to straighten the road and build 55 parking spaces. <br /> 11. Board Vacancies <br />
