Orange County Advisory Board on Aging <br /> MINUTES <br /> Tuesday, May 14, 2019 <br /> Seymour Center <br /> PRESENT: (Board Members) Heather Altman, Colin Austin, Rachel Bearman, Cherie Rosemond, Vibeke Talley, <br /> Richard White, Jenny Womack, and Michael Zuber. (Staff) Annie Deaver, Shenae McPherson, Beverly Shuford, <br /> and Janice Tyler. (Visitor)Jeff Charles <br /> Board Members Absent and excused: Peg Cohn, Mary Altpeter <br /> 1. Introductions and Announcements <br /> a. Welcome to new board members—Jenny Womack and Rachel Bearman <br /> b. Janice welcomed visitor and Advisory Board on Aging applicant, Jeff Charles. Jeff share <br /> information about his background and qualifications. He desires to serve on the board <br /> c. Officially reappointed: Heather Altman, Vibeke Talley and Richard White <br /> 2. Approval of Minutes—April 9, 2019 <br /> a. Approved <br /> 3. Any other Agenda items <br /> a. The 5t" Annual Senior Health Advocacy and Resource Partners (SHARP) Direct Care Worker <br /> Awards ceremony was a success. Congratulations were given to Annie Deaver and the SHARP <br /> team for a job well done. 31 caregivers were recognized with 10 individuals receiving awards. <br /> To date, the Direct Care Worker awards have recognized over 175 caregivers <br /> Director's Report <br /> 4. Staff updates <br /> a. New Staff—Welcome to Alison Smith, VC55+ Volunteer Coordinator <br /> b. Congratulations to Dr. Ryan Lavalley— in charge of our Handy Helper Program <br /> c. Welcome back Kathie Kearns to assist with financial services <br /> d. Longtime Department on Aging supporter, participant and volunteer, Lee Pavao passed away <br /> on 5/13/19. Family would like to have a room in the Seymour Center named after him. Janice is <br /> exploring options. <br /> 5. Older Americans Month Proclamation <br /> a. May 2019 is designated as Older Americans Month. Both senior centers are celebrating with <br /> activities related to this year's theme, Connect, Create, Contribute <br /> 6. Soltys Center Renovation <br /> a. The Florence Gray Soltys Adult Day Health is undergoing mold remediation repairs. Some <br /> renovation will be conducted after hours to prevent disruption to clients. <br /> Continuing Business <br /> 7. Seymour Center Renovation Update <br /> a. Contract bids opened at 2pm today. Once awarded construction will begin to add 55 additional <br /> parking spaces, straighten the road, and double the size of the Great Hall <br /> 8. Board Vacancies <br /> a. Jeff Charles applied to serve on the board leaving 2 more vacancies. Janice commented that we <br /> are looking for representation from central-northern Orange, preferably an African-American, <br /> and someone to represent the Asian community. There is a vacancy on Area Agency on Aging <br />
