2 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING <br /> LEE PAVAO <br /> WHEREAS, through his tireless work in various sectors of the community, Lee Pavao served <br /> Orange County on multiple community and leadership programs; and <br /> WHEREAS, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Lee joined J. Walter <br /> Thompson Company in New York and was assigned to the Miami office before being called to <br /> serve with the US Army at Fort Benning from 1956-1958; and <br /> WHEREAS, Lee and his wife Joan retired to Chapel Hill, NC in 1988, and while Joan passed <br /> away in 1990, Lee used his years of award winning advertising and business skills to dedicate <br /> countless hours to the Orange County Department on Aging, including the Orange County Task <br /> Force for Senior Needs in Southern Orange, the Chapel Hill Senior Center and the Robert and <br /> Pearl Seymour Center; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mr. Pavao also served the community through his work with the Chapel Hill Parks <br /> and Recreation Commission, the Public Library Board and Foundation, the Ronald McDonald <br /> House, the Orange County United Way, and the Orange County Visitors Bureau; and <br /> WHEREAS, Lee was elected to the Chapel Hill Town Council for two terms, serving as Chapel <br /> Hill Mayor Pro Tern from 2000-2001; and <br /> WHEREAS, Lee was an active Board Member of the Orange County Visitors Bureau for many <br /> years, growing Orange County jobs and the economy through tourism; and <br /> WHEREAS, Lee had great passion for his work with older adults to bring a modern one-stop- <br /> shop senior center to Chapel Hill, which culminated in 2007 with the opening of the Robert and <br /> Pearl Seymour Center; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 2012, Mr. Pavao received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award for his 30 years <br /> of volunteer service in Orange County; and <br /> WHEREAS, Lee Pavao, a long time Orange County volunteer and civic leader, died at his home <br /> on May 13, 2019 surrounded by family; and <br /> WHEREAS, Lee's sense of humor, generosity, and compassion for others will be greatly missed; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents <br /> of Orange County, express our deep appreciation, gratitude and respect for the services <br /> rendered by Lee Pavao to the County and beyond over the course of his lifetime. <br /> This the 4th day of June 2019. <br /> Penny Rich, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
