DRAFT 4 55 Beverly Scurry: I work with the Health Department and we're interested to see if the transit plan has any recommendations on 56 a department like ours, that recognizes the need for transportation and how that is connected to help outcome, can assist in 57 any way with getting the word out about your services or help get folks connected. Payment for rides, whatever if there are 58 any recommendations on how any agency or community can assist in anyway. 59 60 Theo Letman: We welcome any type of publicity we can get. I will work with your boss, director on a number of initiatives 61 expanding our marketing capabilities. I work closely with Janice and the Department on Aging and Lisa Berley and also we 62 have Serena McPherson at DSS, we welcome any assistance you can provide in getting the word out. Plus, that new loop, 63 the Hillsborough Circular will try to have a stop here at the Health Department. 64 65 Heidi Perry: Is there any discussion of expanding the hours of the buses going to Chapel Hill and back? 66 67 Theo Letman: I have not talked with Brian Litchfield but in talking with GoTriangle,they are always looking at the performance 68 of all the routes and there are going to be some changes coming to the 420. 1 am not sure what yet. 69 70 Heidi Perry: What was the expectation of the Orange-Alamance bus that didn't succeed of where those people would be 71 going and to and from. 72 73 Theo Letman: That route is actually the GoTriangle ODX route and we just operated it in the mid-day and we routed it through 74 Hillsborough hoping to get some ridership in the mid-day. One problem we encountered with the outlet was that they would 75 not let us bring our bus in there. We requested many times and were flat out denied so there was no cooperation there. 1 76 think that was an impediment to the popularity of the route. 77 78 Lisa Berkley: When you are looking at new vehicles are you taking into account transportation for individual who needs a 79 wheel chair but has a frailty that involves having a lot of pain so going to doctor appointments on a bus is not good for this 80 individual, I am describing one person in particular but I have run across this with others. He has had to hire private 81 transportation which is very expensive. I am wondering if you are looking at any van transportation that is wheel chair 82 accessible that would be less bumpy and could possibly be more direct in the future. 83 84 Theo Letman: We haven't as of yet and what you're referring to is what we would call a stretcher service. We have had 85 clients in other locals that I've worked at where the person isn't in a wheel chair they are actually on a stretcher. They suffer 86 from paraplegia and so they can't move so we have to accommodate them with a large enough vehicle almost like an 87 ambulance to transport them. Those vehicles are expensive but if there is a need in our county, I can definitely look into that. 88 89 Art Menius: I was going to ask about more public transportation in the north part of the county especially the northeast. 90 91 Theo Letman: We are definitely going to focus on that. When we do our pilot program that will be one of the areas we start 92 with. 93 94 AGENDA ITEM 6: REGULAR OUTBOARD AGENDA 95 96 AGENDA ITEM 6A: BICYCLE SAFETY IMPLEMENTATION SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT 97 Abigaile Pittman reviewed the Bicycle Safety Implementation Subcommittee report and reviewed recent activities of the 98 subcommittee including Public Service Announcements, a Facebook Page and the Bicycle Rodeo. 99 100 Art Menius: How many signs have actually been installed? 101 102 Abigaile Pittman: 14,there is another one coming that they missed so there will be 15 in total. 103 104 Alyson West: Is there a list of where they are? 105 106 Abigaile Pittman: I do have it, I will email it. I was also asked to co-locate some with the signs for the rural buffer. 107 Additionally, Todd McGee may get additional rural buffer signs next year and if so he will install the taller poles so we can 108 hopefully add more of our bicycle safety signs to those in the future. 2
