Orange County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee <br />Meeting Minutes, March 5, 2019 <br /> 5:30pm, Seymour Center, Chapel Hill, NC <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER by Vibeke Talley, Chair <br />• Members Present: Martha Bell, Jerry Ann Gregory, Vibeke Talley (Chair), Autumn Cox <br />(Ombudsman), Stephanie Miller, Annie Deaver (Orange County DOA), Stephanie <br />Boswell, Bill Morgan <br />• Members excused: Carol Kelly, Susie Deter, Karen Macklin <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS; <br />• Discussion/Approval Minutes Jan 8, 2019, 2018: Approved <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />• Membership: <br /> Terms Expiring <br />o Karen Macklin: term is expiring and Karen requests not to be reappointed. Committee <br />thanks her for her years of service. <br />o Stephanie Miller: term expiring soon and requests reappointment. <br />o Susie Deter: term expires in June 2019 after 7 years of service. <br />New Member: Bill Morgan’s application has been approved by County Commissioners <br /> <br />• Long Term Care Advocacy Day – April 3, 2019 <br />Committee members are encouraged to participate and meet with legislators to advocate <br />for nursing home residents. One topic may be to raise the personal needs allowance from <br />$30/month for residents receiving Medicaid. <br /> <br />• Site Visit Reports <br />• Brookshire: Accepted as written. One comment: the facility will switch from 8 hour <br />to 12 hour shifts next month. <br />• Carol Woods: Accepted as written. <br />• Parkview: Accepted as written. Committee visitors noted a low census. Most <br />residents were in bed after breakfast. One resident was noted to be in a bed raised <br />high from the floor; when the call light was rung it was promptly answered, yet the <br />bed position prompted questions to Autumn re: safety. Other items noted in the <br />Areas of Concern were satisfactorily reviewed with the Director of Nursing. <br />• Signature: Accepted as written; concern re: closet with biohazard sign unlocked; <br />had been previously noted in other visits. <br />• Pruitt: Accepted with changes. <br /> <br />• Revised Assignment Sheets: Due to member changes, Vibeke revised the assignment <br />sheet and provided copies to members. <br /> <br />• Ombudsman Report (Autumn Cox, Ombudsman) <br />• Autumn will forward further information about the Advocacy Day to all committee <br />members. <br />• The office has received 4 applications for the Adult Care Home Committee. She <br />continues to encourage us to recruit members for our committee. <br />• On 3/21 there will be a meeting to bring together all facilities in our county to gather <br />ideas about Nursing Home Disaster Planning.
