Health Director’s Report <br />May 2019 <br />• May 1, 2019 – Met new UNC Family Medicine Physician, Dr. Dana Iglesias. She will be <br />joining the UNC provider rotation for both Whitted and Southern Medical Clinics. <br />• May 2, 2019 – OC Department Directors Meeting; County Manager’s FY 2019-20 <br />Budget Presentation <br />• May 3, 2019 – I attended the NC DPH Aid-to-County Training where State Nursing <br />Consultants highlighted some minor changes to the online expenditure reporting system <br />that local health departments use. <br />• May 10, 2019 – DHHS announced that R.J. Blackley Alcohol & Drug Abuse Treatment <br />Center in Butner is now certified to initiate treatment for Opioid Use Disorder. The <br />Blackley Center joins two other treatment centers in NC, Julian F. Keith in Black <br />Mountain and Walter B. Jones in Greenville. <br />• I have agreed to join the Partnership Council Charter for Integrated Care for Kids (InCK). <br />The goal of this group is to develop methods to better integrate care coordination and <br />case management across several service agencies, health organizations and community- <br />based organizations. The Council will meet quarterly. <br />• Community Health Assessment Opinion Surveys begin Saturday, May 18, 2019. There <br />will be an additional weekend of surveying and a couple of week nights in June. <br />• Medicaid Transformation – new language; formerly defined “Fee for Service” will now <br />be called “NC Medicaid Direct”; PHP contracts under review with local attorney as well <br />as DHHS to ensure the contract meets the requirements as defined in the RFP. <br />• May 15, 2019 – NC Attorney General Josh Stein announced that NC is suing JUUL, the <br />nation’s biggest e-cigarette company, over allegations that it marketed its products to <br />minors and also lied to consumers of all ages about safety. The lawsuit seeks to ban most <br />e-cig flavors from being sold in North Carolina, among other <br />restrictions. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics- <br />government/article230440839.html? <br /> <br />Upcoming Events <br />• April 21, 2019 – Nursing Director, Pam McCall and I will meet with staff from UNC to <br />discuss a proposal that will target prenatal patients that are in need of high risk/specialty <br />care and the potential for telehealth services to remove barriers that prevent <br />care/treatment. <br />• April 21, 2019 – Family Success Alliance (FSA) featured at Campaign for Racial Equity <br />in our Schools Monthly meeting; Chapel Hill Library, 7pm. <br />• April 23, 2019 – Budget Work Session for Schools & Outside Agencies <br />• April 24, 2019 – Office of Minority Health & Health Disparities to facilitate CLAS <br />Training <br />• May 28 -31 – Away on Vacation <br />• June 3-4, 2019 – Completion of NC Public Health Leadership Institute Course <br />• June 6, 2019 – Budget Work Session for Human Service Agencies, to include Health
