Orange County <br /> Advisory Board on Aging <br /> MINUTES <br /> Tuesday, March 12, 1-3 p.m. <br /> Seymour Center <br /> PRESENT: (Board Members) Peggy Cohn, Colin Austin, Vibeke Talley, Heather Altman <br /> (Staff) Janice Tyler, Shenae McPherson, Anshu Gupta, Annie Deaver, Beverly Shuford <br /> Board Members Absent: Mary Altpeter, Keith Cook, James Harris, Alicia Nelson, Richard White, Michael Zuber <br /> 1. Introductions and Announcements <br /> a. Shenae McPherson our new VC 55+Administrator, and Anshu Gupta, our new Business Officer <br /> b. Beverly Shuford replacing Kathie Kearns as the Advisory Board on Aging secretary <br /> c. Kathie Kearns retired last week but will be coming back to work part-time in the future <br /> d. The now vacant VC 55+Volunteer Coordinator position has been posted internally & externally <br /> and will close on Wednesday, March 20. <br /> i. Qualifications: Prefer background in human services. Needs experience working with and <br /> coordinating volunteers. Must be extremely innovative and self-directed <br /> 2. Approval of Minutes— February 12, 2019 <br /> a. No quorum, therefore, the minutes could not be approved <br /> b. Any other Agenda items- None <br /> c. Director's Report <br /> 3. Staff Updates—See 1(a-d) <br /> 4. Participated in the NC Coalition on Aging's Advocacy Day <br /> a. Janice went to the General Assembly and visited 25-30 legislator offices. Governor's budget was <br /> released with no additional funding for aging services. NC Coalition on Aging is supporting a bill <br /> to push for an additional $7million for the Home & Community Care Block Grant <br /> b. Tommy Goldsmith, NC Health News, wants to interview a family that receives home care <br /> services. <br /> 5. NC Association on Aging Conference, Asheville, NC, March 13-14 <br /> a. Kicks off with the Senior Center Leadership Symposium on Wednesday. Ann Johnson <br /> Leadership Program graduates, Cydnee Sims, Robin Bailan, Terry Colville, and Dawn Smith will <br /> be in attendance <br /> 6. 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Passmore Center, April 5, 10-11:30 a.m.; mark your calendars <br /> 7. TJCOG-AAA Annual Monitoring visit— March 20 <br /> a. Next week Aging Transitions will have a pre-monitoring visit with Ellison to prepare for the <br /> official visit. <br /> 8. Quarterly Faith Based Outreach Breakfast on March 19, 9a.m. at UNC Healthcare Hillsborough. 155 <br /> faith-based organizations have been identified; VC 55+ is working to update contacts; a representative <br /> from each organization are invited to the quarterly breakfast. An educational/informational <br /> component is offered at each breakfast. The March breakfast educational session, Let's Talk about <br /> Mental Health, will be offered by Cardinal Innovations. <br /> New Business <br /> 9. Seymour Center Renovation Update <br />
