7 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> Older Americans Month — May 2019 <br /> Theme - "Connect, Create, Contribute" <br /> Whereas, Orange County includes almost 28,000 persons aged 60 and older who enrich our <br /> community through their diverse life experiences; and <br /> Whereas, Orange County is committed to strengthening our community by connecting with and <br /> supporting older adults, their families, and caregivers and acknowledging their many valuable <br /> contributions to society; and <br /> Whereas, Orange County recognizes the importance of bringing together all generations and <br /> engaging in activities that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being for the benefit of <br /> all; and <br /> Whereas, Orange County can enhance the lives of older Americans in our community by: <br /> • Promoting home and community based services that support independent living; <br /> • Involving older adults in community planning, events, and other activities; and <br /> • Providing opportunities for older adults to work, volunteer, learn, lead and mentor; <br /> Now Therefore, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim May <br /> 2019 to be Older Americans Month, and urge every resident to take time this month to <br /> recognize older adults and the people that serve them as essential and valuable members of <br /> our community. <br /> This the 2nd day of May, 2019. <br /> Heather Altman said she has personally seen the dedication of the BOCC towards <br /> making Orange County an amazing place for seniors to live. She thanked Janice Tyler, for <br /> ongoing efforts to insure meaningful services and supports. <br /> Heather Altman said the 5t" annual Orange County Direct Care Worker awards will be <br /> held next week. <br /> Janice Tyler thanked the BOCC for its support. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Bedford, seconded by Commissioner McKee for <br /> the Board to approve the proclamation and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> b. Proclamation Recognizing Daniel Aaron Toben <br /> The Board considered voting to approve a proclamation recognizing Daniel Aaron Toben <br /> for his services to Orange County. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Daniel Aaron Toben has been a leader in environmental restoration and remediation in Orange <br /> County. Mr. Toben has made significant contributions to improve the health and welfare of the <br /> residents of Orange County. He has worked diligently, at times leading multiple groups, to <br /> improve the quality and natural beauty of Orange County's roadsides, streams and forests. <br />
