No matter where an individual is in life, there is no better time than now to start <br /> 2 living life to the fullest. <br /> 3 <br /> 4 Commissioner Bedford read the proclamation: <br /> 5 <br /> 6 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 7 PROCLAMATION <br /> 8 Older Americans Month — May 2019 <br /> 9 Theme - "Connect, Create, Contribute" <br /> 10 <br /> 11 Whereas, Orange County includes almost 28,000 persons aged 60 and older who enrich our <br /> 12 community through their diverse life experiences; and <br /> 13 <br /> 14 Whereas, Orange County is committed to strengthening our community by connecting with and <br /> 15 supporting older adults, their families, and caregivers and acknowledging their many valuable <br /> 16 contributions to society; and <br /> 17 <br /> 18 Whereas, Orange County recognizes the importance of bringing together all generations and <br /> 19 engaging in activities that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being for the benefit of <br /> 20 all; and <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Whereas, Orange County can enhance the lives of older Americans in our community by: <br /> 23 • Promoting home and community based services that support independent living; <br /> 24 • Involving older adults in community planning, events, and other activities; and <br /> 25 • Providing opportunities for older adults to work, volunteer, learn, lead and mentor; <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Now Therefore, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim May <br /> 28 2019 to be Older Americans Month, and urge every resident to take time this month to <br /> 29 recognize older adults and the people that serve them as essential and valuable members of <br /> 30 our community. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 This the 2nd day of May, 2019. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Heather Altman said she has personally seen the dedication of the BOCC towards <br /> 35 making Orange County an amazing place for seniors to live. She thanked Janice Tyler, for <br /> 36 ongoing efforts to insure meaningful services and supports. <br /> 37 Heather Altman said the 5t" annual Orange County Direct Care Worker awards will be <br /> 38 held next week. <br /> 39 Janice Tyler thanked the BOCC for its support. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 A motion was made by Commissioner Bedford, seconded by Commissioner McKee for <br /> 42 the Board to approve the proclamation and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 43 <br /> 44 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 45 <br /> 46 b.
