2 <br /> Professor Ferris also co-founded the Center for Southern Folklore in Memphis, Tennessee, <br /> serving as its director from 1972 to 1984, and was the founding director of the Center for the <br /> Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi. <br /> The William R. Ferris Collection is located in the Southern Folklife Collection of the Wilson <br /> Library of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with consideration of the <br /> proclamation. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated <br /> with this item. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the attached <br /> proclamation recognizing Professor Bill Ferris for his contributions to the local and worldwide <br /> arts and history community, and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation on behalf of the <br /> Board. <br />
