Article 10 : Definitions <br /> Section 10 . 1 : Definitions <br /> escribes federal , state or local regulations in any combination thereof , which provide standards for <br /> p venting and reducing flood loss and damage . <br /> Floo Proofing <br /> Any co ination of structural and nonstructural additions , changes , or adjustme s to structures , which <br /> reduce or liminate risk of flood damage to real estate or improved real propert , water and sanitation <br /> facilities , or tructures with their contents . <br /> Flood - resist notmaterial <br /> Any building prod t , material , component or system , capable of withst ding direct and prolonged <br /> contact ( minimum hours ) with floodwaters without sustaining dama that requires more than low- cost <br /> cosmetic repair . Any aterial that is water- soluble or is not resistant o alkali or acid in water , including <br /> normal adhesives for a ve - grade use , is not flood - resistant . Pres re -treated lumber or naturally decay- <br /> resistant lumbers are acc table flooring materials . Sheet-type fl oring coverings that restrict <br /> evaporation from below an aterials that are impervious , but do ensionally unstable are not acceptable . <br /> Materials that absorb or retai water excessively after submer nce are not flood - resistant .
