Bennett <br /> Assistant Superintendent, Business & Financial Services <br /> RE: 2019-2020 Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Budget Request <br /> The Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) Board of Education is submitting its 2019-2020 Budget <br /> Request documents to you for the Orange County Board of Commissioners consideration. The district <br /> is requesting $5,530,872 for the next school year, of which $3,598,872 (65%) is for continuation <br /> funding to cover normal operations and the State's anticipated salary & benefit increases. The other <br /> component is $1,932,000 of expansion items that would provide the Board with critical recurring <br /> resources to help sustain important programs for our students as well as an additional benefit item for <br /> our employees. <br /> The official action taken by the CHCCS Board is below and includes the appropriate authorization for <br /> the County Commissioners to increase the district tax, if needed, to fully fund their request: <br /> Be it, therefore, resolved that the Board of Education approves the prepared budget request <br /> and attached document and directs the Superintendent to submit its budget request to the <br /> Board of County Commissioners. Be it further resolved, the Board also authorizes the Orange <br /> County Manager and the Orange County Board of Commissioners to the increase of the district <br /> tax by$0.0470 per$100 property valuation (up to a total assessment of$0.2488 per$100 of <br /> property valuation), as needed, to fully fund our budget request. <br /> We are prepared to provide details and answer any questions related to the request at the scheduled <br /> meeting on April 23, 2019.
