<br />Orange County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee <br />Meeting Minutes, January 8, 2019 <br /> 5:30pm, Seymour Center, Chapel Hill, NC <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER by Vibeke Talley, Chair <br />• Members Present: Martha Bell, Carol Kelly, Jerry Ann Gregory, Susie Deter, Vibeke Talley (Chair), <br />Autumn Cox (Ombudsman), Stephanie Miller, Annie Deaver (Orange County DOA), Karen Macklin <br />• Members excused: Stephanie Boswell <br />• Visitor: Bill Morgan <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS; <br />• Discussion/Approval November 6, 2018 Minutes with the following corrections: Karen Macklin was <br />present at the meeting; Susie Deter’s surname is misspelled, rather than Dieter it should read Deter. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />• Introduction of Volunteer Applicant Bill Morgan. Bill has applied to this and also the Adult Care <br />Home Community Advisory Committee. After providing details about his interests in aging services in <br />general and this committee specifically Bill was thanked for his willingness to volunteer, and left the <br />meeting prior to any further business. After his departure, the committee voted approval to forward his <br />application to our county commissioners. <br /> <br />• Other Information Shared with Committee Members, Martha shared a compiled binder into which <br />has been placed resource articles and other helpful information collected during her tenure with the <br />committee. It was decided to have Autumn scan the material and reserve it as references for committee <br />members. Martha agreed to maintain a list of the material and add to it any further information found by <br />other members. <br /> <br />• Resignation: Jackie Podger. Effective this meeting, Jackie has resigned as a committee member. She is <br />working full time as an activities director at The Stratford. We all wish her great success in her new role <br />and appreciate all her efforts on behalf of seniors in our region. <br /> <br />• Discussion/election of Committee Chair: Following discussion and nomination, Vibeke Talley <br />accepted and was elected chairperson of this committee. <br /> <br />• Site Visit Reports <br />o Signature: Due to committee member changes Signature’s quarterly visit was not completed. <br />o Brookshire: Accepted as written. One comment re: use of restraints was noted: Autumn reminded <br />us all that new federal regulations effective 2018 stipulate that any side rail use is considered a <br />restraint, even if requested by the resident for aid in lifting or position change. <br />o Parkview: accepted as written. <br />o Carolina Point: Committee members noted frequent changes in facility personnel and also felt <br />there to be a marked difference in staff morale. Discussions with the new Nursing Home <br />Administrator outlined his goals. The report was accepted as written. <br />o Carol Woods: Accepted as written.
