11 <br /> 1 <br /> 2 This the 2"d day of April 2019. <br /> 3 <br /> 4 A motion was made by Commissioner Greene, seconded by Commissioner Dorosin for <br /> 5 the Board to approve the proclamation and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 8 <br /> 9 c. Community Development Week Proclamation <br /> 10 The Board considered voting to approve a proclamation designating April 22-26, 2019 <br /> 11 as Community Development Week in Orange County, North Carolina and authorize the Chair to <br /> 12 sign. <br /> 13 Sherrill Hampton, Housing Director, presented the information below: <br /> 14 <br /> 15 BACKGROUND: The week of April 22-26, 2019 is designated as National Community <br /> 16 Development Week. Its purpose is to showcase the Community Development Block Grant <br /> 17 (CDBG) and the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Programs, which are both <br /> 18 administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Since 1975, <br /> 19 the CDBG Program has been an important source of funding for communities to address a <br /> 20 broad array of affordable housing and community and economic development needs. The <br /> 21 HOME Program, since 1992, has provided funding to local communities to create or retain <br /> 22 affordable housing for low-income households. <br /> 23 The theme for this year's National Community Development Week is "CDBG and HOME Make <br /> 24 Communities Better Places to Live and Work." <br /> 25 <br /> 26 In recognition of National Community Development Week, Orange County's Department of <br /> 27 Housing and Community Development will co-sponsor a National Community Development <br /> 28 Week exhibit at the Orange County Main Library, Carrboro Branch Library and the Chapel Hill <br /> 29 Public Library to showcase books that touch on the many facets of community development. <br /> 30 Books will range from the landmark The Power Broker, by Robert A. Caro to P.E. Moskowitz's <br /> 31 recent How to Kill a City: Gentrification, Inequality, and the Fight for the Neighborhood. In <br /> 32 addition, the Housing and Community Development Department will host other activities during <br /> 33 the week, including posting stories on the County's Website showcasing the applicable work of <br /> 34 the County's various community partners, etc. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Sherrill Hampton read the proclamation: <br /> 37 <br /> 38 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 39 PROCLAMATION <br /> 40 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK <br /> 41 <br /> 42 WHEREAS, the week of April 22-26, 2019 has been designated as National Community <br /> 43 Development Week to recognize and celebrate the Community Development <br /> 44 Block Grant (CDBG) Program and the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) <br /> 45 Program; and <br /> 46 <br /> 47 WHEREAS, the theme for the 2019 National Community Development Week is "CDBG and <br /> 48 HOME Make Communities Better Places to Live and Work"; and <br /> 49 <br />
