57 <br /> Brief Statement of Board/Commission's Assigned Charge and <br /> Responsibilities. <br /> • The Advisory Board works cohesively with Orange County's Economic <br /> Development staff and other economic development partners to help market <br /> Orange County as a desirable and competitive location for the recruitment & <br /> retention of business ventures, new & expanding capital investment for non- <br /> residential (retail, commercial, light manufacturing and distribution/logistics) <br /> business prospects. <br /> • The Advisory Board also supports the growth and recruitment of agricultural & <br /> foods systems related local businesses, promotion of entrepreneurial talent <br /> via the "LAUNCH" high-tech incubator facility in Chapel Hill and the Piedmont <br /> Food & Agriculture Processing facility (PFAP) in Hillsborough, and the <br /> expansion of new, high-technology employment opportunities that pay at or <br /> above a living wage. <br /> What are your Board/Commission's most important accomplishments? <br /> • The Advisory Board's subcommittee reviewed numerous detailed small <br /> business grant applications for the Small Business grant program, and <br /> approved 33 small business grant awards, totaling $154,525.00 (as of <br /> 11/26/18) in 2018. <br /> • The Advisory Board also assisted in the Agriculture Economic Development <br /> Grant program to receive and review applications, approving 14 grant awards <br /> totaling $99,999.98 in support of Orange County's small farmers and food <br /> processors in 2018. <br /> • Overall, grant award activity benefiting small business & small farmers <br /> injected a total of $254,524.98 (as of 11/26/18) in Article 46 funding <br /> throughout Orange County and the towns of Hillsborough, Chapel Hill and <br /> Carrboro for the year in 2018. <br /> • The Advisory Board continues to have a dialog with the County Manager's <br /> office to recommend the County's direction resulting from the economic <br /> development-themed SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, <br /> threats) of our industrial zoned sites that completed in the spring of 2018. <br /> List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored <br />
