The Contractor shall provide all materials, equipment and labor necessary to install and set into <br /> operation the heating and air conditioning equipment as shown on the Engineering Drawings and <br /> as contained herein. <br /> 1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br /> A. See the General and Supplementary General Conditions and Division 1. <br /> B. All work shall be in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Minimum requirements <br /> shall be the North Carolina State Building Code. <br /> C. The Contractor shall be responsible for obtaining all permits and shall notify inspection <br /> departments as work progresses. <br /> D. Whenever the words "Approval", "Approved", or"Approved Equal"appear, it is intended that items <br /> other than the model number specified shall be subject to the approval of the engineer. <br /> E. All material and equipment that the Contractor proposed to substitute in lieu of those specified in <br /> the Specifications, shall be submitted to the Engineer ten (10) days prior to the bid date for <br /> evaluation. The submittal shall include a full description of the material or equipment and all <br /> pertinent engineering data required to substantiate the equality of the proposed item to that <br /> specified. Items that are submitted for approval after this date will not be accepted. <br /> F. "Provide"as used herein shall mean that the Contractor responsible shall furnish and install said <br /> item or equipment. "Furnish"as used herein shall mean that the Contractor responsible shall <br /> acquire and make available said item or equipment and that installation shall be by others. "Install" <br /> as used herein shall mean that the Contractor responsible shall make installation of items or <br /> equipment furnished by others. <br /> G. Boiler Inspection Certificate- It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to complete the <br /> installation of fired or unfired pressure vessels and their safety devices in accordance with the <br /> requirements of the latest edition of the North Carolina Department of Labor, "Boiler Inspection <br /> Law, Rules and Regulations". <br /> 1. The Contractor shall be responsible for notifying the Bureau of Boiler Inspection in writing at <br /> least two weeks prior to the date of completion of all equipment requiring inspection. <br /> Certificates furnished by the Bureau of Boiler Inspection shall be installed in a frame having a <br /> removable glass cover and posted near the pressure vessel. Certificates shall be installed <br /> before requesting final inspection of the completed project. The pressure vessel is NOT to be <br /> operated before it is inspected and approved. <br /> 1.03 SUBSTITUTIONS <br /> A. Products are specified for use on this project by one of the following: <br /> 1. Reference Standards and Description: Any products meeting the Reference Standards and <br /> Description will be acceptable (i.e., piping). <br /> 2. Naming of a product as an example to denote the quality standard of the product desired, in <br /> which case three or more brands will be denoted (where applicable)to establish equivalent <br /> designs. Naming of a product does not restrict Bidders to a specific brand (i.e., fixtures, <br /> valves, etc.). <br /> 3. Requests for approval of manufacturer's or substitutions which have not been preapproved <br /> shall be made by using the forms at the end of this section. <br /> B. During bidding period: Submitted written requests from Bidders Only, using the forms herein, <br /> will be considered if received ten (10) calendar days prior to the date of receipt of bids to allow for <br /> proper evaluation. Requests from suppliers or subcontractors will not be considered. <br /> Substitutions will be considered when a product becomes unavailable through no fault of the <br /> Contractor. A request constitutes a representation that the Bidder/Contractor: <br /> 1. Has investigated proposed product and determined that it meets or exceeds the quality level <br /> of the specified product and is suitable for use in the Work. <br /> 2.
