<br /> B. Restoration Specialist Qualifications: Engage an experienced masonry restoration firm to perform work of this
<br /> Section. Firm shall have completed work similar in material, design, and extent to that indicated for this Project with
<br /> a record of successful in-service performance.
<br /> 1. Field Supervision: Restoration specialist firms shall maintain experienced full-time supervisors on Project site
<br /> during times that clay masonry restoration and cleaning are in progress. Supervisors shall not be changed during
<br /> Project except for causes beyond the control of restoration specialist firm.
<br /> 2. Restoration Worker Qualifications: Persons who are experienced and specialize in restoration work of types
<br /> they will be performing.
<br /> 3. Source Limitations: Obtain each type of material for masonry restoration (cement, sand, etc.)from one source
<br /> with resources to provide materials of consistent quality in appearance and physical properties.
<br /> 1.8 DEFINITIONS
<br /> A. Tuckpointing: The process of removing deteriorated and defective mortar from the joints of existing masonry wall
<br /> and replacing with new mortar.
<br /> B. Deteriorated and defective mortar: Any mortar joint exhibiting cracks, spells, voids, powdering, efflorescence or any
<br /> other noted deficiencies that may prevent watertight conditions.
<br /> 1.9 WARRANTY
<br /> A. Provide Contractor's labor warranty. The warranty term shall be 2 years correcting leaks and defects resulting from
<br /> workmanship on all installed materials. Contractor shall respond with correcting action within 24 hours of Owner's
<br /> call.
<br /> PART 2-PRODUCTS
<br /> 2.1 UNIT MASONRY
<br /> A. Split-Faced CMU: Match existing, provide CMU matching color,texture, and size of existing adjacent CMU work.
<br /> 2.2 MORTAR AND ACCESSORY MATERIALS
<br /> A. Portland cement: Meeting ASTM C150-92, Type I, natural or white color as required for color match, domestic
<br /> manufacture.
<br /> B. Masonry cement: Meeting ASTM C91-91, Type S. non-staining, 22 % maximum air content by volume and
<br /> proportioned to comply with requirements of ASTM C270-89 for Type S mortar. Pre-mixed,colored masonry cement:
<br /> 1. Acceptable products; pending compliance with specified characteristics and acceptable color range to match
<br /> specified color:
<br /> a. Citadel Cement, Div. LaFarge Corp., Citadel Custom Color Masonry Cement.
<br /> b. Coplay Cement Co., Brixment-In-Color.
<br /> c. Lehigh Portland Cement Co., Custom Color Masonry Cement.
<br /> d. Riverton Corp., Flamingo Masonry Cement.
<br /> e. U. S. Cement Co., Custom Color Masonry Cement.
<br /> 2. Characteristics: Meeting ASTM C91-91, non-staining, 22 % maximum air content by volume, with inert, alkali-
<br /> resistant, fade-resistant mineral pigments and complete with water-reducing and plasticizing admixtures,
<br /> proportioned to comply with requirements of ASTM C270-89 for Type S mortar with minimum 28-day
<br /> compressive strength of 1800 psi.
<br /> 3. Color: Custom color as selected by Owner from samples formulated for Type S mortar to match existing mortar
<br /> color.
<br /> C. Aggregate for mortar: Clean, hard, natural,washed sand meeting ASTM C144-91.
<br /> D. Water: Clean, potable,free from deleterious amounts of alkalies, acids and organic materials.
<br /> E. Bonding agent: Thoro Systems,Acryl-60.
<br /> F. Small joint sealer: Schnee-Morehead,Acryl-R Seam Sealer,#SM-5505.
<br /> G. Bonding agent and anti-corrosion agent: two component surface preparation used for priming reinforcing steel and
<br /> bonding new concrete or mortar. Sonoprep as manufactured by Sonneborn ChemRex, Inc., or Engineer approved
<br /> substitution.
<br /> 2.3 MASONRY CLEANING MATERIALS
<br /> A. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with the specified requirements, products of the following manufacturers are
<br /> approved: Prosoco, Inc., or Engineer approved substitution.
<br /> B. Light Duty Restoration Cleaner: used for removing light to moderate atmospheric staining from dense masonry.
<br /> Clear, gelled liquid; 1.124 specific gravity; no flash point, 1.6 ph; 9.3 Ibs wt./gal.
