Pedersen
Superintendent
We are writing to you in regard to the master planning of the Twin Creeks site. We
recognize that a committee has spent considerable time developing this master plan and
appreciate the opportunity for the schools to be active participants. This is a major
parcel of land and it's critical that it be planned in the best interest of all parties.
We understand that Mathew Barton has shared with you an alternative plan that would
keep the same facilities and fields on the parcel, but would locate the schools in the
southern portion of the property. Although this would be a major change in the plans,
we believe that it warrants further study. The major advantage is that it could allow
hundreds of children to walk safely to their neighborhood school, thereby saving
considerable transportation costs. Building accessibility is a major feature of smart
growth and every opportunity to promote accessibility on this site should be explored.
Therefore, we ask that the Commissioners not take any action on the master plan until
this option is evaluated and reported back to the Commissioners and to the Board of
Education. We would appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this process.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Carter
Chair
Neil G. Pedersen
Superintendent
