5
1 The resident expressed concern about station 2 on St. Mary's Road, and its lack of EMS
2 services. He said this has been a work in process, and EMS will be stationed here full
3 time within 2-3 weeks. He said the resident expressed concern about the sprinkler
4 system failing should the power go out (due to well water), but noted that this station has
5 a 100K generator.
6 He said there are firefighters that live on St. Mary's Road, who pass station 2 going to
7 work Monday through Friday, and there are people at this station daily.
8 He said during storms, EMS and the Sheriff's department utilize this station. He said a
9 lack of tracks in the snow does not mean the station is unstaffed, but rather no calls
10 have been run.
11 The resident stated the department only has a "john boat with a paddle". He said the
12 department has a zodiac military style boat with two paddles for water rescue. He said
13 the boat does not have a motor at this time due to budgetary constraints, but if the
14 department receives a water rescue call, Orange Rural Fire Department goes along, and
15 SORS is on standby, if necessary.
16 The resident said the department cannot answer calls in the State Park, but this is not
17 true, and resources do not come from Alamance County, as claimed by the resident. He
18 said there are 15 personnel on a 48 person staff who are trained in water rescue.
19
20 Commissioner Dorosin asked if Chief Hayes could provide this information in writing so
21 the Board could respond to the resident.
22 Chair Rich said Dinah Jeffries had already responded.
23 Commissioner Dorosin said this information should be made publically available to refute
24 the allegations made by the resident.
25 Commissioner Marcoplos referred to the two paddles and a high quality boat, and asked
26 if a motor would be useful.
27 Chief Hayes said a motor would be very useful, but require the purchase of a different
28 style boat as the current boat is not equipped for a motor. He said funds will not allow for such
29 a purchase at this time.
30 The meeting adjourned at 7:49 p.m.
31
32
33 Penny Rich, Chair
34
35
36 Donna Baker
37 Clerk to the Board
38
