i~ <br />~c®~~ o~ sE~~~cEs <br />The following Scope for Services describes an agreement between Environmental Services, <br />Inc., (ESI) and Orange County (Client) with the terms specified herein, Client agrees that the <br />company/individual signing this agreement has the ability to compensate ESI for the work <br />described herein whether or not the proposed project materializes. ESI agrees to perform the <br />following tasks for the associated fee. <br />Project Title: <br />Cultural and Archaeological Survey of the Fairview Park Expansion <br />Project Location: <br />Hillsborough, Orange County, PJorth Carolina <br />Section A. Background Research <br />Time-and-Materials, Upset Limit $279.50 <br />ESI will conduct a preliminary study and literature review of the project area, The project area <br />has been divided into four areas: Area 1 (approximately 17 acres), Area 2 (approximately 2 <br />acres), Area 3 (approximately 12 acres), and Area 4 (approximately 36 acres).. <br />Background research will be conducted at a variety of institutions that may include the following: <br />the Office of State Archaeology (OSA); the Survey and Planning Branch; the North Carolina <br />State Library; the North Carolina State Archives; the Southern Historical Collection, University of <br />North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC); the North Carolina Collection (NCC) at UNC; The Alliance <br />for Historic Hillsborough (including the Hillsborough Historical Society, the Historic District <br />Commission, the Orange County Historical Museum, and the Preservation Fund of <br />Hillsborough); and the repositories of local Hillsborough and Orange County records. <br />All relevant reports of previous cultural resource investigations in the vicinity will be examined, <br />including An Inventory of Cultural, Historical, Recreational, Biological, and Geological <br />Significance in the Unincorporated Portions of Orange County, the Historic Preservation <br />element of the Orange County Comprehensive Plan, compliance reports and site forms for <br />previously recorded archaeological or historical properties on file at the OSA, and ERGD Staff <br />Research files. <br />In addition to literature-based research, the staff of the OSA will be consulted, as well other <br />knowledgeable local individuals. <br />Information collected during the research phase will be used to more specifically determine the <br />nature of cultural resources recorded on and adjacent to the project area, to identify the <br />potential locations for additional resources within the project area, and to develop contexts to <br />evaluate resources recorded during the survey phase for historic significance.
