23 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> ORANGE UNIFIED TRANSPORTATION BOARD <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: January 16, 2019 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4.b. <br /> SUBJECT: Bicycle Safety Implementation Subcommittee (BSIS) Report <br /> DEPARTMENT: Planning and Inspections <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Abigaile Pittman, Transportation/Land <br /> Use Planner, 919-245-2567 <br /> PURPOSE: Receive a report on the recent activities of the BSIS. <br /> BACKGROUND: Since the November 28, 2018 OUTBoard meeting, four posters and a <br /> brochure focused on `Rules of the Road' have been printed by Vista Print. The installation of <br /> fifteen bicycle safety road signs at entry points to the county and along frequently used bicycle <br /> routes began January 7th. Additionally, the bicycle safety website has been completed and <br /> linked to the Orange County Transportation web <br /> site: http://www.orangecountVnc.gov/2047/Bicycle-Safety . <br /> Next Steps <br /> Staff and the BSIS will continue to work on: <br /> • Social media ads and posts, and radio ads will be underway late fall of this year. <br /> Budgeted funds will be utilized for social media ads on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, <br /> print and/or radio ads (WCHL Radio, News of Orange, etc.). Audio PSAs will be <br /> produced by WCOM Radio next spring. <br /> • The scheduling of events, including a Bike Rodeo, and other community events where <br /> bicycle safety brochures and branded swag can be shared. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no immediate financial impact associated with this item. <br /> Budgeted funds from are being utilized. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): Staff recommends that the OUTBoard: <br /> 1. Receive information; and <br /> 2. Provide any comments or direction that the Board might have. <br />
