Proclamation Recognizing the Orange High School Future Farmers of America <br /> 2 (FFA) Senior Livestock Judging Team for Winning State Competition <br /> 3 The Board recognized the Orange County High School Future Farmers of America <br /> 4 Senior Livestock Judging Team for winning the State competition. <br /> 5 Travis Myren introduced this item and Cole Watkins, the Ag Teacher, introduced the <br /> 6 team. <br /> 7 Commissioner Price read the proclamation: <br /> 8 <br /> 9 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 10 PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION <br /> 11 ORANGE HIGH SCHOOL FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA SENIOR LIVESTOCK <br /> 12 JUDGING TEAM WINNING 2018 STATE COMPETITION <br /> 13 <br /> 14 WHEREAS, on November 27, 2018, Orange High School entered a Senior Livestock Judging <br /> 15 Team in the 2018 N.C. Future Farmers of America (FFA) Association's annual Livestock <br /> 16 Evaluation Career Development Event; and <br /> 17 <br /> 18 WHEREAS, the competitive event is for agricultural education students, emphasizing skills in <br /> 19 livestock evaluation, selection and management as taught through the agricultural <br /> 20 education curriculum; and <br /> 21 <br /> 22 WHEREAS, under the leadership of Cole Watkins, an instructor in the Career and Technical <br /> 23 Education Department at Orange High School, the team placed 1st in the state out of 89 <br /> 24 high school teams; and <br /> 25 <br /> 26 WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication and commitment, the team brought honor upon <br /> 27 themselves, Orange High School, the Orange County Schools District and Orange County; <br /> 28 <br /> 29 NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 30 expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the Orange High School Senior Livestock <br /> 31 Judging Team and Cole Watkins for this outstanding achievement, and wishes them great <br /> 32 success when they represent the school and county at the national event in October 2019. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 This the 5t" day of February 2019. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner McKee, for the <br /> 37 to authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation recognizing the students and faculty advisor for <br /> 38 winning the competition, representing the community and school and wishing them great <br /> 39 success in the nationwide competition this fall. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 42 <br /> 43 b. NC Association of Assessing Officers Distinguished Jurisdiction Award <br /> 44 The Board recognized the Orange County Tax Office for its selection as a distinguished <br /> 45 assessment jurisdiction by the North Carolina Association of Assessing Officers. <br /> 46 Dwane Brinson, Tax Administrator, reviewed the background information below: <br /> 47 <br /> 48 BACKGROUND: Each year the North Carolina Association of Assessing Officers (NCAAO) <br /> 49 recognizes up to three (3) counties for the Joseph E.
