Convey Smart Growth for Schools principles to the Chapel Hill - Carrboro City Schools
(CHCCS)
2. Ask CHCCS for a timetable for the construction and opening of the planned Elementary
School #10, as well as any infrastructure construction estimates generated to date
3. Create an alternative design scenario, with a focus on smart growth for school
construction and sharing of facilities
4. Hold an open house /public input session on the plans for the site
5. Prepare a report evaluating projected water and sewer demand from the site, and
develop park construction cost estimates
6. Begin the process of preparing a Conditional Use Permit application for submittal to the
Town of Carrboro
Since that time, staff has worked to complete these actions, and can report the following
progress to date (covered in greater detail in the attached memorandum):
The Smart Growth for Schools principles have been conveyed to CHCCS. Based on the
Debt Issuance Schedule that the Board reviewed on October 25th, Elementary #10 would
open in fall of 2007. There is some evidence that this timetable will be extended in
response to projections related to the School Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance.
Additional information would be available for Board consideration following the SAPFO-
