The "Opening of School" report prompted an editorial that <br />appeared shortly thereafter in the Chapel Hill Herald. The Board of Commissioners <br />subsequently requested additional information about the issues mentioned in the editorial about <br />student withdrawals from the Chapel Hill-Carrboro system. <br />County and CHCCS staff conferred about this request, and have attached several charts from <br />the "Opening of Schools° report that provide additional details about student gains and losses, <br />CHCCS staff will attend this November 16 BOCC meeting to explain data related to new and <br />withdrawn students, and other questions that the Board may have about the CHCCS "Opening <br />of School" report. <br />The entire "Opening of Schools" report from October 7, 2004 can be viewed under the "Board <br />Agendas and Attachments" section of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School website at: <br />http://www.chccs.kl2 naus/Board/10072004BoardAgenda/OofSR pdf <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact directly related to this report. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the report for <br />information only. <br />
