ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: November 16, 2004 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. _,~~_ <br />SUBJECT: Housing Rehabilitation Contract Award <br />DEPARTMENT: Housing/Comm, Development PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Bid Results <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Tara L, Fikes, ext. 2490 <br />Work Specifications TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />County Map Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To award two housing rehabilitation contracts for the GDBG Scattered Site <br />Housing Rehabilitation Program, <br />BACKGROUND: The Housing and Community Development Department solicited bids from <br />qualified housing rehabilitation contractors participating in the County's Housing Rehabilitation <br />Program, The informal bidding process is governed by the North Carolina General Statues <br />§143-131 and does not require a minimum number of bids, Additionally, present program <br />procedures provide that housing rehabilitation contracts be awarded to the lowest responsible <br />bidder. Additionally, all contractors participating in the County's Rehabilitation Program are <br />required to utilize current deconstruction and material recycling methods during the repair <br />process. <br />The last GDBG Scattered Site Housing Rehabilitation Program was awarded in 2001 and 14 <br />substandard dwellings were repaired throughout the County as detailed on the enclosed map, <br />Sealed bids were solicited from participating contractors on October 4, 2004, with a bid opening <br />on October 26, 2004 and four bids being received. Bid results are attached, Joel Poole Home <br />Improvements and Triple J Construction Co, submitting the lowest bids. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The 2004 CDBG Scattered Site Program provides grant funding for this <br />program. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends awarding the following housing <br />rehabilitation contracts: <br />Dwelling Unit Bid Amount Contractor <br />205 Rencher St., Hillsborough $24,540 Joel Poole Home Improvements <br />206 W. Orange St., Hillsborough $32,830 Triple J Construction Company <br />
