Revised -XO\ <br />EC 2: Exposure Control Training: <br />•All personnel providing emergency services will be required to complete: <br />o Initial Exposure Control training at the time of assignment to tasks where <br />occupational exposure may occur. Personnel shall not be assigned to such <br />tasks until they have received such training. <br />o Refresher and updated exposure control training at least annually thereafter. <br />•All Exposure Control training materials will be appropriate in content and <br />vocabulary to the educational level, literacy, and language of personnel being <br />trained. <br />•Training will be in compliance with OSHA Regulation 29 CFR Part 1910.1030 <br />and shall include: <br />o An accessible copy of 29 CFR Part 1910.1030 and an explanation of its <br />contents. <br />o A general explanation of the epidemiology and symptoms of bloodborne / <br />airborne diseases. <br />o An explanation of the modes of transmission of bloodborne / airborne <br />pathogens. <br />o An explanation of the department exposure control plan including the <br />location of an accessible copy for personnel to examine at any time. <br />o An explanation of the appropriate methods for recognizing tasks and other <br />activities that may involve exposure to blood and other potentially <br />infectious materials. <br />o Information on the types, proper uses, location, removal, handling, <br />decontamination and disposal of personal protective equipment. <br />o An explanation of the basis for selection of personal protective equipment. <br />o Information on the hepatitis B vaccination program provided to all <br />personnel at no cost, including information regarding its efficacy, safety, <br />and benefits. <br />o Information on the appropriate actions to take and persons to contact in an <br />emergency involving blood or other potentially infectious materials. <br />o An explanation of the procedure to follow if an exposure incident occurs, <br />including the method of reporting the incident, exposure determination, <br />and the medical follow-up that will be made available <br />o Information on the post-exposure evaluation and follow-up that the <br />department is required to provide following an exposure incident. <br />o An explanation of the signs, labels and / or color-coding required for <br />biohazard materials including the proper storage and disposal of <br />materials. <br />o Opportunity for interactive questions and answers. <br />Orange County Emergency Services <br />Exposure Control Program <br />Standard Operating Procedures <br />DocuSign Envelope ID: 79C5D167-B6CA-4E59-B4AC-AA38CC1B20BD
