3~- <br />Orange County Trigon Project No. 036-00-016D <br />Hillsborough Landfill Site _~ July 19, 2000 <br />Upon completion of the boring program, the recovered samples were rehtmed to Trigon's soils <br />and materials testing laboratory, where they were visually examined and placed in groups of like <br />materials. A laboratory log of each boring was prepared based upon drillers' field logs, laboratory <br />test results and visual classification. Test boring logs are included in Appendix C. The logs <br />summarize the primary strata encountered, the depth of each stratum change, the depth of <br />sample, Standard Penetration Test results, groundwater conditions and laboratory test data. The <br />laboratory logs were prepared for each boring giving the appropriate sample data, and the texhtral <br />description and classification. <br />2.3 LAI30RATORY Tr,STING <br />Representative samples recovered from the borings were visually classified in general accordance <br />with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Due to the preliminary nature of ttris study, <br />laboratory testing was not perfomted- <br />3.0 SITE AND SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS <br />3.1 SITE CONDITIONS <br />This pt'operty is a rectangle shaped parcel consisting of approximately 67 acres. The property is <br />accessible from the south off Torain Street from the east by the Orange County property, and <br />from the northwest by the Fairview Park. <br />Approximately half of the site is wooded with small to medium diameter trees. The northeastern <br />section of the property is utilized as a stump, tree and limb collection azea where chipping activities <br />take place Cleared areas are present in the central portion of the site, and a baseball field, <br />reportedly constructed by the residents of-the Fairview neighborhood, is located on the northwest <br />portion of the property. <br />According to the USGS 7.5-minute "Hillsborough, NC" Topographic Quadrangle (see Appendix <br />A), the topography in the site vicinity is characterized by moderate relief: The northern portion of <br />TRJGONENGINEERINGCONSULTi1N7S, lNC. ~ Page 2 <br />
