In addition, one background sample, 55-4, was collected
from a single location approximately 500 feet to the west of the property boundary in the
Fairview Park, These samples were sent to Paradigm Analytical Laboratories, Inc., a
North Carolina-certified laboratory, for analyses.
In April 2000, Trigon began work on the geoteclmical evaluation of the property to assess
the subsurface conditions at the site, and to delineate the landfill area. The work included
advancing 49 geotechnieal borings across the 67-acre property.. Soil samples were
collected from eight of the geoteehnical borings in the central portion of the property in
areas expected to be the location of past landfilling activities.. Those eight samples were
collected from the surface to a depth of nvo feet, and then were composited into one
sample (SS-5) for analysis. In addition, two discrete soil samples (SS-6 and SS-7) were
collected from the borings advanced for the two monitoring wells (MW-1 and MW-2)
subsequently installed in the central portion of the site.
All soil samples were collected in accordance with procedures outlined in the
GTOUndwater• Sectiorr Guidelines far the Jm+estigation and Remediation of Soil and
Groundwater, Volume II, January 2, 1998,
TRlGONL'NGINL•L•RlNG CONSUL TAN7S, ING Page 3
