y <br />October 11, 2004 <br />Orange County Commissioners <br />200 S, Cameron Street <br />Post Office Box 8181 <br />Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br />Deaz Commissioners: <br />Last fall Triangle-area elected officials were briefed on the 10-Year Plan to End <br />Honzelessrzess initiative sponsored by the United States Interagency Council on <br />Homelessness. Attendees were asked to begin similaz planning in their localities. Our <br />counterparts in Wake County along with the Triangle United Way have developed a <br />program that incorporates public forums and action-oriented workshops. For mare <br />information about their program you may visit www.raleigh-naorg and click on end <br />komelessness in the lower left hand corner of the page, <br />At our Town Council Planning Session on January 17, 2004, the Council received a <br />report from Councilmember Greene regarding the 10-Year Plan to Errd Homelessness, <br />Fallowing that presentation the Council agreed to add a public dialogue on homelessness <br />to its list of goals for 2004, Councilmember Greene and I agreed to lead this initiative, <br />In May, my office sent a letter to your attention about partnering to sponsor a Roundtable <br />Discussion on Homelessness in Orange County, Commissioner Jacobs and the County <br />staff suggested a committee be organized with members from each of the governing <br />bodies, The group began meeting on June 24, 2004. Members include James Harris <br />(Town of Cazrboro), Shaman Hinton (Orange County), Tara Fikes (Orange County), <br />Loryn Baznes (Chapel Hill), Emily Dickens (Chapel Hill), Linda Tuday (Triangle United <br />Way), Chris Moran (IFC), I{ristin Lavergne (IFC), Bille Guthrie (OPC Mental <br />Health/Orange County Continuum of Care). <br />The Roundtable Committee proposes to hold the Roundtable Discussion on <br />Homelessness on November 18, 2004 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints <br />on Airport Road from 8:30 a.m. until noon. The group has determined the following <br />goals for this event; <br />1.
