The OCAC is currently working <br />with the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission on two public art projects: Homestead Aquatics <br />Center and Southern Community Park, The BOCC also previously asked the OCAC to coordinate <br />a public art project at Southern Human Services Center and provided $9,000 in funding during <br />FY05, The BOCC has demonstrated an interest in finding public art, and a willingness to involve <br />the OCAC in administering public art projects. <br />Chapel Hill has a Percent for Art Program in place by ordinance. Charlotte and Asheville also <br />have established Percent for Art Programs. Other NC cities with public art plans and/or public art <br />committees in place include Cary, Hickory, Wilson, Kinston and Hendersonville. Mecklenburg <br />County has adopted acounty-wide Percent for Art Program, If enacted by the BOCC, Orange <br />County would be the second county in North Carolina to adopt a Percent for Art Program, <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The money (1 %) for Percent for Art projects is allocated from the <br />construction budget for each public space or facility, The Percent for Art Program would apply to <br />County-funded capital constnuction projects that provide public services and accessibility, Public <br />spaces, new construction and existing facilities undergoing substantial reconstruction would be <br />considered by the BOCC. <br />
