ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina General Assembly passed Senate Bill 300 "An Act to Amend <br />the Laws Regarding Emergency Management as Recommended by the Legislative Disaster <br />Response Commission"in .June of 2001 that among other provisions requires local <br />governments to have a hazard mitigation plan approved prior to November 1, 2004 in order to <br />receive state public assistance funds; and <br />WHEREAS, in October of 2000 the President of the United States signed into law the "Disaster <br />Mitigation Act of 2000" (PL 106-390) to amend the "Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and <br />EmergengyAcf of 1988"which among other provisions requires local governments to adopt a <br />mitigation plan in order to be eligible for hazard mitigation funding; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management is assisting local <br />governments in the formulation of hazard mitigation plans; and <br />WHEREAS, the Orange County Planning Department and Emergency Management Services <br />have worked closely with representatives from the Towns of Carrboro and Hillsborough to <br />develop amulti-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management has conducted a review of <br />the Hazard Mitigation Plan; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of Orange County <br />hereby adopt the "Orange County Hazard Mitigation Plan"as approved by the North Catalina <br />Division of Emergency Management. <br />This, the 19th day of October, 2004. <br />Barry Jacobs, Chair <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />ATTEST: <br />Donna Baker <br />Clerk to the Board <br />COUNTY SEAL <br />
