chosen primarily for their artistic merit and their ability to work successfully in the public art <br />arena. <br />The finalists have received the approval of the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission and the <br />Orange County Arts Commission, The Chapel Hill Town Council approved the artist team <br />selected for the Southern Community Park at its meeting on September 27, 2004, and the <br />Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission is on the Chapel Hill Town Council agenda an October 27, <br />2004 requesting approval of the artist selected far the Homestead Aquatics Center Public Art <br />Project. <br />These two public art projects will be completed during the construction phase, projected for <br />completion in 2006. <br />Approval from the Board of County Commissioners is requested for the selected artists for <br />these two projects, <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: No new money is needed. Money far this purpose has already been <br />appropriated by the BOCC. The 1 % for public art equates to $55,000 for the Homestead <br />Aquatics Center and $27,000 ($20,000 for the design fee and $7,000 for design <br />implementation) for Southern Community Park. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the artist team of <br />Laura Haddad and Tom Drugan for the Southern Community Park Public Art Project and artist <br />Ray King for the Homestead Aquatics Center Public Art Project. <br />
