OPT Short Range Transit Plan

Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates, Inc. | 5-14

IMPLEMENTATION
Implementing all of these recommended services would come with increased capital and
operating costs. Existing OPT service cots approximately $540,000 annually, and implementing
all of these improvements would result in more than $1 million in additional annual costs. These
improvements would also require up to seven new vehicles and the construction of a new transfer
center.
To balance the financial wellbeing of the agency, it is important to prioritize these improvements
accordingly and invest in new services in the event of an increase in funding availability, as shown
in Figure 5-12 and Figure 5-13.
Figure 5-12 Improvement Prioritization and Annual Operating Cost within Existing Budget
Feasible within Existing Budget
Priority
Number Project Type Description Frequency
Total
Annual
Revenue
Hours
Total
Annual
Operating
Cost
Peak
Vehicles
1 Vanpool
Programs
Continue coordination with
GoTriangle to support
vanpools
----
2 Community Van
Programs
Provide low-cost van leases
to qualifying nonprofit and
government agencies to
promote access to social
services
----
3 Zone Services
Operate three zones for five
hours two days per week - 1,560 $90,480 1
4 Hillsborough
Circulator
Operate every 60 minutes
from 8am-5pm on weekdays 60 2,250 $130,500 1
5
Orange-
Alamance
Connector
Operate every 60 minutes
from 10am-3pm on weekdays 60 3,250 $188,500 1
6
Orange-Chapel
Hill Midday
Connector
Operate every 60 minutes
from 9:45am-3:50pm on
weekdays
60 2,250 $130,500 2
Total 9,310 $539,980 5
