Town of Chapel Hill citizen representative to RTP regional rail transportation planning in <br /> mid 1990 s <br /> Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br /> I believe I understand the issues and know the capabilities of transportation systems. <br /> Particularly the need for a multi modal and social equity systems capabilities physically and <br /> financially. <br /> Conflict of Interest: <br /> Supplemental Questions: <br /> Orange County Planning Board (REQUIRES DISCLOSURE STATEMENT) <br /> Please list the work/volunteer experience/qualifications that would add to your expertise <br /> for this board. <br /> 30 years as a resident and city planning/land development consultant in Orange County, Chapel <br /> Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough. Thorough knowledge of the role of the Planning Board and a <br /> background in economic development and housing development within the County. I was the <br /> primary consultant to the owner/developer of the Waterstone Development and initiated the <br /> conversations with County Commissioners and Durham Tech that resulted in the location of the <br /> Orange County Campus within that development. <br /> What unique perspective can you bring to the Orange County Planning Board? <br /> Pragmatic experience in realistic agricultural land preservation, the economics of development, <br /> community design, and the relationship of County planning and economic development efforts in <br /> conjunction with the Town of Hillsborough. In addition, I have been developing Fiscal Impact <br /> analyses for proposed developments and local government comprehensive plans for about 40 <br /> years, including the Fiscal Impact analysis of Waterstone and several development proposals in <br /> Chapel Hill and Durham. <br /> What do you see as the responsibilities of this board, and what do you hope to <br /> accomplish if appointed? <br /> While a planning board is charged with providing advice and recommendations to the <br /> Commissioners on planning, zoning and development matters; it is a board that should [and in <br /> Orange County does] provide a thorough sounding board location for residents, businesses and <br /> county government entities especially- more specific topical advisory boards-to merge the <br /> conversations about needs and desires for our future community. As product, the board seek to <br /> synthesize and develop proposed plans to reach the community goals, plans then vetted through <br /> a broad review process ending up in the hands of the elected commissioners for adoption and or <br /> modification and adoption. <br /> What do you consider to be be the most important issues facing Orange County related <br /> to growth? <br /> As strange as it may sound to many, making sure our public education system [Orange County, <br /> Chapel Hill - Carrboro, and Durham Tech] provides a thorough education for all our residents. <br /> Without adequate education, good employment opportunities and economic growth for all <br /> residents will be limited and reduce our ability to provide the quality of life conditions we want for <br /> all. Beyond this, I believe that the limitations on the extension of public water and sewer beyond <br /> the current limited areas around Hillsborough and Chapel Hill/Carrboro need to be re-examined <br /> and I believe it is the role of the County to initiate this discussion. <br />
